Do previous generation Trimble BD9250s or BD900s receivers come with Trimble Maxwell 8 technology?

No. The Trimble BD9250 and BD9XX series of products are built around previous generation technology called Maxwell 7.

The new Trimble Maxwell 8 Technology is built around a set of both software and hardware innovations—including the 8th generation baseband GNSS ASIC (application-specific integrated circuit) architecture, with onboard quad-core processing. This extra processing capacity improves CPU task performance and sensor fusion capabilities, additionally supported by the upgraded IMU and MEMs oscillator hardware components.

In this way, Trimble Maxwell 8 Technology innovations are made possible by the hardware upgrades of the Trimble Maxwell 8 GNSS modules, and exist solely on the 1090 series of modules, at this time.

What are the key advantages of Trimble JammerGuard, Trimble RTX-NMA and Trimble IonoGuard?

Trimble JammerGuard, RTX-NMA and IonoGuard are three technological innovations that are collectively included as part of Trimble Maxwell 8 Technology. Each innovation combats different forms of radio frequency interference—GNSS jamming, GNSS spoofing, and solar or ionospheric scintillation, respectively. These intentional and unintentional forms of interference can significantly disrupt or disable high-precision positioning performance.

Trimble JammerGuard provides continuous high accuracy and reliable positioning by actively monitoring and minimizing unwanted interference across all GNSS frequency bands. This is accomplished through a multi-layered approach that spans hardware radio frequency features and digital signal processing, to positioning software. The core JammerGuard features include: antenna and RF front-end filtering, high resolution digitization, advanced DSP jam mitigation, resilient tracking loops, an agnostic PVT engine and situational awareness toolkits.

Trimble RTX-NMA seeks to detect both fake GNSS signals and faulty ephemeris data preventing the receiver from calculating erroneous positions that could significantly deviate from the actual position. Together with Galileo OSNMA, comprehensive security is provided across multiple constellations.

Trimble IonoGuard tracks multiple signals independently, and responds to solar/atmospheric events which create ionospheric scintillation by seamlessly switching to unaffected signals, preventing loss of lock on GNSS phase tracking.

All three technologies work in tandem automatically during in-field missions as anti-jamming, anti-spoofing and solar scintillation protection to ensure that users receive reliable, uninterrupted GNSS receiver performance.

The Toolkit’s streamlined, easy-to-navigate interface indicates: which frequencies are impacted, how severely they are affected, and depicts what the signal looks like before and after the mitigation processing is applied. Visual plots demonstrate how the mean C/No of tracked signals is impacted—and the effect this has on the position solution’s error estimates—with the purpose of guiding users to evaluate their position reliability.
